iPhone 17 Series to Feature Major Display Upgrades, Including 120Hz and Under-Display Face ID

Apple’s upcoming iPhone 17 family is set to receive significant display upgrades, according to industry expert Ross Young from Display Supply Chain Consultants. These upgrades will be applied across all models, including the standard iPhone 17, the new iPhone 17 Slim, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max. This marks a major leap in Apple’s display technology and positions the iPhone 17 series for high-demand.

The iPhone 17 is expected to finally adopt a 120Hz refresh rate and LTPO OLED display, a feature Apple has so far reserved for its Pro models. The LTPO technology allows for dynamic refresh rates, dropping as low as 1Hz to conserve battery life. This upgrade will offer smoother performance, especially when scrolling, gaming, or watching videos, meeting long-standing user expectations.

In a surprise move, Apple will replace the underperforming Plus model with the iPhone 17 Slim. The Slim will also receive the 120Hz LTPO display, emphasizing its role as a high-end offering. Apple is reportedly banking on its sleek design and superior display to make this model stand out in the market.

The iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max are rumored to include under-display Face ID, eliminating the need for the current Dynamic Island, which has housed the Face ID sensors. This innovation means the Pro models will have a much smaller cutout on the display, leaving room only for the front-facing camera. With this advancement, Apple’s flagship phones will resemble premium Android designs, further enhancing their competitive edge.

These display enhancements across the iPhone 17 series highlight Apple’s effort to bridge the gap between its regular and Pro models while adding features that align with current flagship phone trends. Users can expect smoother animations, better battery management, and a futuristic design in 2024.
